As of July 11 at 4:42 Eastern Time this bug seems to be fixed. I updated my system software and made sure Safari was up to date. The problem demonstrated in this video was VERY real. And the opinions expressed in this video about video chatting are still funny. The technical issues documented were experienced on Friday July 8th. My overall fear . . . if Facebook can’t keep Farmville Spammers off my wall how will they keep me from secretly being videotaped? Comedian, Thomas J. Kelly discovers a major flaw with Facebook’s video calling chat for people using Apple computer and Safari. If your’e not careful . . . your Facebook friends users can still watch you even if you log out of Facebook and quit Safari. This inability to hang up your video call while calling problem does not exist in Chrome.

Easy fix for these problems: Stop being retarded.
@TheBrianhollings The Farmville line was a joke. But the camera situation . . .. even if I”m an idiot and missed seeing it in the dock . . . quitting facebook and launching task manager did not end the video call. I’m saying I might be an idiot and that video chat is not idiot proof.
And to solve your Farmville problem…block Farmville.
Problem solved.
That is definitely not a bug. Try checking your dock….
This is exactly why I put a bandaid over the camera on my laptop. I’m not paranoid, dammit!
he he he skype is suck
use oovoo the best video on net!
@TomKellyShow Force quitting Safari didn’t end the call because Facebook Video Calling works by installing a browser/Internet plug-in that opens a standalone Skype “lite” app (that’s different from the main Skype app). This app has no relation to Safari or the Finder, which is why you need to specifically quit it (the FacebookVideoCalling process) via the Activity Monitor, or Terminal.
@TomKellyShow Hmmm…the mystery fix snuck in under the radar. Interesting. Well, at least you can walk around pantless again. I can vouch for the joy that that brings
@torontocitylife You are correct. The problem was on Apple’s Safari and OSX. It did not happen on a Mac running Chrome. I had run Software update since Friday and installed something. The problem seems to have either been corrected on Facebook’s end or on my end.
Facebook bug? Not quite … this is yet another Apple bug. Clearly this isn’t an issue on any browser or OS other than Apple’s (latest Safari and OSX, yes?). No doubt Jobs will blame this on background fornicating dogs and pantless chats.
@bnakamoto Now . . . the bug is fixed. BUT . . . if you watch the video . . . when I forcequit safari . . the camera was still active.
As of July 11 at 4:42 Eastern Time this bug seems to be fixed.
@TomKellyShow Note that the Force Quit Applications window (the one in your video) you can invoke by holding down the Command–Option–Esc keys is different than the more detailed Activity Monitor app that’s in your Applications/Utilities folder. It’s not surprising that relaunching the Finder didn’t quit the video call since the Finder app is totally unrelated to the trimmed down Skype helper app that is invoked by the Facebook Internet plug-in when you connect a video call.
@bnakamoto Also note my friend was using Chrome. He did not have ANY problems.
@bnakamoto The newest Safari and newest OS. When I minimized on two occasions on Friday the thumbnail did not show up. As seen in the video . . . the chat was NOT showing up in the activity monitor even though the chat was still engaged. I will try a video call again tonight and update you.
Which version of Safari and OS X are being used in the video? I can’t reproduce the problem myself using the latest version of Safari and Snow Leopard. (Minimizing the Facebook Video Calling window creates a live thumbnail of the window in the Dock as one would expect.) However, if one were to encounter such a problem, open Activity Monitor, and Quit the FacebookVideoCalling process—no Restart required.
@TomKellyShow I Don’t Have The Video Chat Option In The Chat Option I Only Have The Close And Settings Options….Or Do Both People Need To Have A Camera
@pnut2trill What do you mean PNut?
I Dont Even Have That Option
@kevintoscano That particular point is facetious . . . but the bottom line is . . . this is something that needs to be fixed.
Why the fuck would you have a video chat with a perv anyways? .__. Most logicall things being said on this video.
