Great video !!
I usually fry up some bacon and then fry up the onions in that. Adding the cooked bacon back to the peas. Other than that is the same here on the Gulf Coast. I use the canned peas too, but I rinse them so they won’t be so salty.
We also have cabbage with pork and definetely cornbread with it all.
No, it won’t make the rice mushy. It only gets reheated for about 5 minutes to serve it hot. Thanks for your comment!

Cool, we’ll try it with my girlfriend.
I just moved from south Florida up to Wisconsin to live with my girlfriend, so it’s nice to get some southern sunshine in these recipes.
We also appreciate your sunny disposition, Betty. Thank you and keep them coming.
when you add liquid of the bean can to the cooked rice , won’t make the rice mushy!
Thanks Betty. Never heard of Hoppin John before but I am sure that I will love it!
do you eat pork & sauerkraut,on New Years’ Day? that’s what he do up here.
Another great video. Too bad I can’t get black eyed peas here in South Korea.
