averagebetty, love your show, we enjoy spare ribs and potato pancakes with sweet sour kraut each New Years Day. And now for my question, what is your favorite meal and why?

I’m glad you’re doing vlogs now I enjoy humor and love how you make recipes easy for us not so grand cooking masters. As for New years tradition? Nothing, my family was never one to celebrate the holidays Christmas yes but that was for the sake of us kids. Now we don’t anymore cuz I’m all grown up. To be honest I’m fine with that :)

By the way … my New Year’s day food tradition includes Collard Greens and Black-eyed peas. (I grew up in SC, but now live in Chicago). As an African-American, greens and black-eyed peas were a strong-hold on New Years Day. Many participate in the tradition, but not many know why. During the Civil War, General Sherman burned all the crops on his march to the sea. However, black-peas were spared … as were collards (I assume here). So, it is considered good luck to eat both.

@averagebetty No it’s only called the Cabbage Sausage cause it’s served with cabbage, it’s pure pork but it have a very rich and moist inner after it’s been boiled. It’s a very unique taste unlike a normal sausage! =) Happy New Year! XD

@KuroGetsumeiYami YUM! Sounds delish — are the cabbage sausages like sausages wrapped in cabbage or cabbage filled sausages? Bring on the caramelized potatoes! Happy New Year!!

@averagebetty The sauerkraut is made in a big pot along with pork and a lot of times dumplings. And if you have finicky eaters in the family, hot dogs. God bless America! lol If I had a sandwich with 5 or 6 layers of other stuff on it besides the sauerkraut, I might like it. : ) You have gotten a lot of black eyed peas responses, I never had them but if they’re anything close to regular peas I wouldn’t care for them. Are you in the youtube film that filmester did? See I’m full of…questions: )

It’s a Danish tradition in my family that we always get cabbage sausages and ham with curly cale and caramelized potatoes. The sausages are really yummy dipped in some of the curly cale along with some mustard. =) Happy New Year!
