Indian Wins Commonwealth Games Gold in Discus

At the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India had a spectacular day in athletics yesterday winning all three medals in discus…and a first Commonwealth Games Gold in athletics in 52 years. Let’s take a look. It was a day of joy and celebration for India on Monday as discus thrower Krishna Poonia gave India its first Commonwealth Games athletics gold medal in 52 years. The last time that happened was when runner Milkha Singh took the men’s 400 meter title in Wales back in 1958. Indian women took all three medals with Harwant Kaur claiming the silver and Seema Antil the bronze. [Krishna Poonia, Gold Medalist]: “It is very essential to win medals in every sporting event as India is hosting the Commonwealth Games and every Indian was keeping an eye over the athletics contingents because of not so good performances in the last couple of years, we were facing tough competition. In the end, we feel great to win medals and as you are talking about Milkha Singh, he would be happy to know that I won the gold medal after him.” Harwant Kaur was also pleased with her achievement. [Harwant Kaur, Silver Medalist]: “But today, three of us feel so good and the happiest moment was that when three of us took the flag together after winning medals, as the games are taking place in India.” Bronze medalist Seema Antil says the win gives her a lot of confidence. [Seema Antil, Bronze Medalist]: “I am very happy today to win a medal and if I had not, probably I would have stopped competing due
