Up to tonight this Olympics was an Olympics to forget for Charles Hamelin. The man has already skated a few races and finished just off the podium each time. To make things possibly even a little worse, his girlfriend was probably waving her silver medal in front of him for the past week! Fortunately he realized gold today in Men’s 500m Shorttrack. Rounding the final corner saw Hamelin in 1st, a Korean in 2nd, Tremblay in 3rd and Ohno needing to make a move. However just as he was making his move he placed his hand on Tremblay’s back (probably because all of the relays are happening right now) and Tremblay lost control. In the end Ohno who finished 2nd was DQ’d which meant another medal for Canada! The Korean tried impeding Hamelin at the finish line, but that backfired and he wiped out – amazingly he wasn’t DQ’d for impeding but given the deaththreats on the officials who finally DQ’d the Koreans the other night, it seems the judges let this one slip – after all, he did lose gold. btw I hadn’t seen the replay of the Korean blocking Hamelin with his arm until after I made the video. The men’s 5000m relay I unfortunately didn’t see. I spent all day watching curling and hockey and missed the race but sounds like we kicked major butt! Congratulations men short trackers on a huge gold! Interesting enough the Hamelin brothers, Tremblay and Olivier were on that team. That means not only did Hamelin have a great night, but he also became Canada’s first multiple gold medallist in …

Absolutely – and proud to be
14 wins, 67 Gold medals – noone has ever done that before
GO CANADA MY HOME “i live in vancouver born and raised”
right when we scored i was at home and all through the neighborhood everyone was going outside blowing horns and being loud!!!!!!!!!!! r u canadian ??????
Rogentx I appreciate all of the thought, its great to see people care about the legitamicy of the games! At the end of the day all that matters is that the USA finished with 96 total medals and Canada finished with 90 medals and noone else came close to those totals. Both of out countries should be proud and celebrate as neighbours…oh and before I forget, Obama told Harper he was bringing the beer!
1; S.Korea fan(s) made death threat due to the call regarding the 1500. If Sung was in fact DQed, that threats could have became reality, although not likely, however, possiblie due to all the crazies in the world.
2. Ohno has reputation for ‘unfair’ and the man he caused to fall was Canadian, and the person who came first was Canadian.
3. The Chief Ref was Canadian and on home soil.
Oh, and the only thing I don’t agree with what you said, is when you Sung was in the passing line because he was came out of turn and was outside (likely result of hitting the rut).
Fair points. However, in this case, IF he did this or he did that is not the issue at hand with this discussion, no. Hamelin was in the right to pass, as he should have been, however, due to the fact he did make slight contact, and Sung fell; Now, say if he didn’t fall down, if he was DQed for impending, I would have supported it, as I have with Ohno. The Controversy with this, and this is just what I have gathered from opinions, news, etc, etc, in which none is my own personal feelings….
No controversy there as far as I am concerned. After watching the Korean short track strategy for the duration of the games it was pretty clear that what was done is even if he had hit a rut, he was blocking the entire passing lane to make sure he didn’t get passed at the end – that is against the rules, off-balance or not. Hamelin had no choice but to try and pass or he would of gotten silver, if Sung took away the entire passing lane, then that is impeding.
(continued) however, I feel that he (Hamelin) should have been DQed based on the contact by hand, not the foot/shin to hand incident.
Unfortunely, I think this race and the 1500 is going to be one of the many controvesy incidents in these games.
@Overdrive,
Although I agree with the impending, however, Sung was not impending Hamelin’s contact because if you do watch carefully, Sung hit a rut, did go off balance and corrected himself as Hamelin took that small opening, thus making slight contact and as result, he fell. Now, say if you are talking about when he was putting his hand down. He was trying to keep himself from falling and Hamelin hit it, although not intentional I am sure…..
