Cheating in gold Jewelry shops in Bangalore on Stone charges

I wanted to write this blog from last three months, but due to busy schedule I was not able to write this.

Yesterday I went to Malleswaram and I saw the board of famous gold jewelry shop saying “No Making Charges and No Stone Charges” on gold jewelries. My memories recurred to the whole episode that happened in one of the jewelry shop when i was purchasing jewelry three months back. I thought of doing some research before making it public, after visiting number of shops around Bangalore I came to know that except some branded shops, all other shops do this cheating. Here it goes, How they cheat.

Gold jewelry comes with tag specifying wastage weight and stone weight. However in these shops the stone weight par will be missing.

Shopkeepers should ideally deduct the stone weight from the jewelry. But what they do is they include the weight of stone as part of gold weight.These stones are not precious stones.They hardly cost between Rs 200 – Rs 500. They fool customers telling that they will not take any charges for stones

Obviously the rate of the gold is more than the price of the stone and price of the jewelry shoots up since customer is paying for the stone weight in terms of the gold rate. customer will be under impression that he got the jewelry at lower price.

for example : total weight of the jeweler is 10gms, and gold weight is 8 gms and stone weight is 2gms.

cost of the gold is 1445 rs per gram and stone cost will be around 450.

customer should have paid 8*1445 + 445 = 12010 ( the making charges and wastage is ignored for explanation purpose)

but customer pays 10 * 1445 = 14450 RS.

Is this not cheating?

This is not the case of one shop al most all shops dose this kind of cheating. Why this issue is ignored by government ?  

As it is the gold prices are sky rocketing.. on that this this kind of cheating… and this issue getting unnoticed…. the only solution for this kind of problems is awareness . Come let us spread the awareness about his kind of day light cheating, let us list the gold shops where fair selling happens.
